Here's just a sample.

1. The vast majority of Hokies would prefer to watch football in a division with Kentucky, Tennessee, Vandy, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and, say, N.C. State (assuming two eastern programs were added and Missouri was shifted to the west where it belongs).

2. Fans from most of the aforesaid schools will buy all available tickets to watch their team play the Hokies in Blacksburg. Not so for virtually any program in the ACC Coastal.

3. There will be zero impact on academics. Tech had a relationship with Wake Forest before joining the ACC. Tech still has a relationship with Maryland after the Terps bolted for the B1G.

4. Revenue will go sharply upward because of increased interest and ticket sales. Right now, Tech's $80 million budget trails many peer schools. For example, WVU has a $90 million budget in a state that is routinely panned for its bleak economic status.

5. Tech will be no more of an outsider in the SEC than it has been in the ACC.

6. Tech will have a more difficult road to a conference championship in football, but a 9-3 or 8-4 record will almost always put Tech in a much better bowl than the Charlotte game.

7. The only Tech sports that would witness a downgrade in competition are basketball and soccer. On the other hand, Tech has a better chance of threatening Kentucky for conference supremacy than it will ever have of getting past UNC, Duke and Louisville (not to mention UVa, Syracuse, NC State and others).
