Having been 10-12 times, and going again in June

I'd recommend going in mid November-mid December. The parks decorate for Christmas around November 8, and are very festive. The Magic Kingdom has Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party which requires an additional ticket and starts at 6-7 PM. I prefer off property timeshares, Marriott's Grande Vista and Wyndham Bonnet Creek are very nice, and redweek.com should have a 2BR for about $800-1000. This allows breakfast in condo. I'm not big on Disney Meal Plan as lines are long, food expensive and average at best. With young kids you'll be ready to leave parks at dinner time. Figure about $100/person/day for park admission, and you won't need park hopper passes. A 4 or 5 day Disney ticket will be plenty. Don't miss Disney Character Breakfast, Chef Mickeys and Cinderella's Castle are great. Reservations can be made 180 days out, and are a must, especially at the Castle if you have a Princess. Universal Studios is also great, and colorful, and has a Grinch Christmas Special. I'm driving in June for the first time, about 11 hours, but will probably split it up, as my wife doesn't help out on trips. Let me know if you want more info, and good luck.
