I would echo reestuart's post below about working with a planner.


My wife did a lot of research herself, but we used a rep with Pixie Vacations who was able to pass on a lot of tips, spend time on the phone changing reservations for us, etc.

For the first trip, I'd suggest not trying to cut corners. If it is feasible (which it sounds like it is for you), get the meal plan and stay at a Disney resort (we stayed at a value resort - Art of Animation - the first time, which was great for our kids that were 6, 6, and 3, but you can definitely go more upscale with a moderate or deluxe resort).

If you decide you don't want to go back, you hopefully had a great one-time visit. If you do decide to go back, you can use the first trip to determine whether you need the meal plan, can stay off site, etc.

Oh, and late Fall is a great time, as others have noted. Not as hot, not as crowded. Check the link for a decent overview of "good" times to go.
