Oh, I'll go all in here.

I think today's Alabama team would easily handle the 1970s NFL teams. Those NFL guys in the 70s were TOUGH. That was the nature of the game. You had to be a little crazy to play it. Guys like Larry Csonka and Jack Tatum and anybody else you can name were TOUGH.

But their size and speed wasn't nearly what Alabama's team is now, particularly the speed.

Take the 17-0 1972 Miami Dolphins. Csonka had good size -- 6-3, 235 -- but he was an oddity.

The 1972 Dolphins offensive line went:

LT: Doug Crusan, 6-5, 250
LG: Bob Kuechenberg, 6-2, 253
C: Jim Langer: 6-2, 250
RG: Larry Little, 6-1, 265
RT: Norm Evans, 6-5, 250

Alabama's third-leading tackler, Raekwon Davis, is 6-7, 306. (Honestly, I don't know if he's a DT or a DE. I don't pay any attention to Alabama.) Think anyone on Miami's 1972 team could stop him? I don't.

Bob Griese was 6-1, 190. Alabama linebackers Shaun Dion Hamilton and Rashaan Evans are 6-0, 235, and 6-3, 234 respectively. Each one outweighs Griese by 45 pounds. If either one came free on a blitz, he might kill Griese.

College S&C programs are WAY ahead of anything the pros were doing back then (which was mostly nothing).

Lastly, Alabama's players all look 'roided up to me. That's another advantage they have over the old NFL teams.
