Not sure what you mean by self directed as it relates to real estate


Self directed generally means simply that you're making your own investment decisions rather than paying a financial advisor for advice.

You can own real estate in an IRA but it is complicated. Lots of factors to consider and if you're asking the Lounge for advice it might be too complicated for your current sophistication.
