Guess I'm the weird one. I never missed more than a few hours of work for

a dead grandparent.

I was three when my maternal grandfather died.

My maternal grandmother died when I was 25. I went to the parlor viewing on a Friday evening, only missed a couple of hours of work as she lived and died only an hour away. We buried her that Sunday.

My paternal grandfather went next, three years later. There was a memorial service followed by a "celebration of his life," all in one afternoon in the same city in which I live. I only missed a few hours of work.

Finally, my paternal grandmother passed, several years after Alzheimer's had taken her mind. I went to the Memorial Service, pretty sure it was a Friday afternoon, and I was back at work on Monday.
