is that I'm struggling with how to understand this, and I asked the Lounge for advice, not a lecture.

And yes, at SOME POINT, work is more important.

I agree with your comment above the communication is key. It would have been nice if the employer had touched base once since they left on Monday.

And by the way, not critical, but the employee seemed just fine at the funeral yesterday. I know, looks can be deceiving, but they weren't a mess. No one was. None of this was unexpected.
