The way I've heard it explained (Discovery Science folks like Michio Kaku,


Lawrence, Krauss, Michelle Thaller, and Hakeem Oluseyi) There's just so much SPACE that the stars will likely interact very little with one another. The big event will be the two super-massive black holes merging together, and even that will likely not have much effect on the stars within the galaxies.
