He's about to retire and few could have taken a basketball conference and

transferred a lot of the power to football. Duke and UNC sure did not want it to happen. Right now FSU and Clemson are running a lot more of the show. They did not want to change the divisions or play 9 conference games "for now".

PS ACC football lost it's leverage when Miami, FSU and Clemson were not national powers. We did not have the leverage to get a channel going without them on the national scene. Nor Roy Kramer nor Jim Delaney nor Mike Slive could not have pulled it off. Not that Swofford doesn't have his weaknesses...everyone does, but the ACC could have easily folded a couple of times and not because of him. Like the Big East it was a basketball conference with a lot of factions and basketball lost it's power to football. Moving the power to football was a very difficult thing to do. The Big East could not pull it off.
