Swofford should've had a heart-to-heart talk with...

UMCP's AD and Loh after they opposed the ACC's exit fee increase. It was during that time period that Delany was recruiting UMCP to the Big 10. Swofford focused on FSU's objection, but was oblivious to UMCP's objection. Swofford could've badgered UMCP but he was complacent with UMCP because they were a 60 year charter member. Swofford likely took things for granted. I'm sure that he learned a hard lesson from that event. I'm sure that Swofford kept closer relationships with each ACC member school after UMCP left the conference. The GOR alone pretty much ties every member to the ACC until 2036. Swofford should've set a GOR in place after Pitt and Syracuse were accepted 2011. That would've made it very difficult for UMCP to leave since the ACC would've own the media rights to most Maryland sporting events. Swofford was guilty of not watching his flock as closely as he should've. That's why I place most of the blame on him for Maryland's departure.
