I agree with virtually everything you say in this post

Especially that UL was a mistake. I'm not certain that WVU was available (had they already done a GOR with the B12?), but if they were available they were by far the best choice. If they weren't available, UCONN would have been a better choice (and though it is clear that others on this board don't agree at all, I'd have preferred Navy to UConn).
I sort of understand BC overy UConn in the 2004 expansion. You have to keep everybody happy, and for whatever reason there clearly was membership support for BC over UConn.
One last point: I'd have picked Rutgers over Syracuse, and stayed with Pitt. To the extent that Syracuse delivers NYC (which is arguably not much), Rutgers does as well. And they are an AAU school. Choosing them would have left the B1G with no Eastern expansion partner for MD, assuming they weren't going to bend the AAU rule and also assuming that Pitt was unattractive as they didn't bring a new state. I'm not saying this in hindsight: I made exactly this case to my brother on the day they announced Pitt and Cuse. I had no idea about the MD to B1G thing at the time, but I did know that the B1G was looking East and they only wanted AAU schools. Seemed like a reasonable defensive move to me. Note: I've got nothing against Syracuse. They just weren't the right move to my thinking.
