Right NYC was overwhelmed dealing with a fraction of a fraction of the
cases that would have to happen to get to herd immunity. That's my point. We've struggled at times in certain areas to deal with the cases thus far. IF we end up having to deal with another 200 million cases to get to herd immunity it could dicey. I agree that spreading them out would help but I don't know how feasible that is or how long it would need to be spread out over.
I don't disagree with your logic behind tightening restrictions as needed but I'm less optimistic that people will actually follow or accept them. There just seem to be a lot of people out there who have either decided they're "done" with the virus or that the government/media is exaggerating things or that it's a ploy to take away their freedoms. I also think it could be difficult for governments to put a specific end date on it just because it would most likely depend entirely on how the numbers respond. What happens when that date arrives and the numbers still justify keeping the restrictions in place? It's a difficult situation for sure.
