and if you test more, and are testing mainly people who show symptoms, understand your raw number of cases is going to go up, i.e the number of new cases per day will increase or spike. Is this the ONLY reason new case numbers are going up? Of course not. But it does play a part. Ignoring that is as simple minded as saying we don't need more testing.
