Simple answer.....

My kids will be 7 and in 2nd grade.

During The School Year
Up and thru kindergarten my kids went to daycare. Starting with 1st grade, my kids went to CASA an after school program run by the county. Both had 30+ kids running around, playing together.

During Summer
My kids went to a variety of summer camps, soccer, dance, gymnastics, or CASA camp mentioned above. Those are provided by organizations that put 30 kids together to do activities. Those have all been cancelled this summer OR still held but are meeting the requirements of social distancing, etc. with significantly increased prices. Point being those things were provided with no social distancing.

Even if you ignore the aspect above and say I will just get a nanny or babysitter. To do that you have to find someone who wants to do that first. Second there are going to be more families that want that resource than that resource being available, the main reason, summer has a lot more high school, college kids who are free from school, sports, etc. That all goes away with school.

Let's say my wife and I use daycare starting this fall. If all the daycares in the area are following proper protocols, how do you expect them to keep the kids not of school age social distanced AND the kids coming for after school or on their non-school day? They have to be running at half capacity as well. Can't really expect everyone to run at half-capacity yet meet the requirement of childcare unless we are going to build a bunch of daycare facilities, etc.
