Well, the subject line I suppose.

COVID-19 appears to be more fatal and have more and worse long term consequences in survivors than influenza. I say "appears to be", because as a novel virus we have no idea what's going to happen going forward. It is possible that most of these particularly bad outcomes are a result of the virus being new. And wave n+1 or in year n+1 will have lesser outcomes as the collective human immune response improves. It's also possible that we are well and truly screwed, with a nasty plague that's just going to rear it's head every winter.

Being in close proximity to a sick person outside certainly can spread a virus. If the virus can survive in an HVAC system for a while, it will be worse inside because you'll keep being exposed to it over and over again as the air recirculates.
