Yeah, it's weird.


My in-laws tested positive right after New Year's Day, followed by my daughter a few days later. I was sure my wife and I would both test positive too, as I was already feeling a little "off" myself. To my surprise, we both tested negative. In my case, I was given both a rapid test and a PCR test.

On the other end of the spectrum, everyone in my wife's brother's household just had COVID. They have not even seen my in-laws in a couple of years, so that's definitely not where they contracted it. Perhaps they had a different strain than what my in-laws and daughter had...but it's definitely hard to comprehend how we somehow avoided transmission in our household with a younger child that loves to be near us, yet my wife's brother's family with teens/tweens who are much more independent all got sick. Heck, our daughter slept IN the bed with us the night she was most symptomatic (before we knew she had COVID). I find it mind-boggling that we did not test positive, unless we were previously unknowingly exposed and already had some immunity.
