HJi expectations
I am a season ticket holder and I agree that the Cassell should be renovated instead of building a new facility. Most games, except on weekends are no where filled to capacity. The students do not show up, even though they can get in free and the general public is no where to be found. The season ticket holders are not going to drive 4 to 5 hours to see Tech play on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night when they are not playing ACC games. Shoot, most of the time they do not show up for those games either. To me, it would be a waste of money to build a bigger building when you cannot fill a 9000 seat arena. Unless you have some deep pocket investors who are willing to go this route, which I do not think we have, then forget about a bigger building. I love Cassell as it is and am looking forward to the day when the renovations will be complete, even though it may be less that 9K fans in attendance! I will continue to give to the HOKIE CLUB/Scholarship Fund. One day, Tech may need a bigger building but I do not see it happening anytime soon. Build the program first and then see what happens. Someone wrote last night, BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME. Let's build the program first and then see if the fans show up, then we can talk about a bigger venue but not right now.
