Agree - too many entertainment options
I remember some of the "REALLY full" games from the 70's when most people didn't have cable, there wasn't ESPN, no internet and an overall dearth of entertainment choices. I also remember the days when the ACCT was the hardest ticket anywhere - not so much anymore. The ever so slightly reduced capacity is a non-issue these days.
I was originally from Radford, went to VT in the late 70's and would return home often to see the folks and go to a game be it football or basketball. Since my parents passed in the early 2000s, I have hardly been to any games at all and I live 3.5 hours away. Why? Because a) I can get nearly every VT football game or BB game on some sort of TV or internet feed and b) since I don't have a base of operations in Radford anymore, going to games is much more expensive unless I do a one day up and back and those aren't much fun for a 63 year old. I'll bet a dollar to a donut that many people have similar situations. Heck, if I lived in Radford or Blacksburg, I would go to a lot more games - but not all of them or even close to all of them. The tailgate I used to frequent was organized by Radford folks and it is no longer there because most of them gave up their football season tickets and just go to games infrequently now.
Times have changed and IMHO, VT is doing the right thing with the Cassell renovation.
