Failure is a strong word. But do the statistics still show that you will

make much more money if you go to college (on average or course)?
I know all my students aren't destined for college and I wouldn't call anyone a failure simply for not going to college. I think there are lots of variables as well. Do you not go to college because you're lazy and don't care as long as mom and dad will let you live with them and pay the bills? Or is it because a company is offering you a position right out of high school? Do you go to college and major in Women's Studies or Community Organizing? Or do you go to college and major in Mechanical Engineering or Oncology?
I was a slacker in High School and it bit me in the ass when I wanted to go to VT. I didn't have a prayer. So I went to community college, then to Radford. I partied a lot there as well and was lucky just to graduate. My degree was Exercise and Sports Science.....but I went back to get my teaching certificate. I never got my master's....I've thought about it. But now I realize the amount I would make doesn't really make it worth it.
My daughter is extremely smart and I expect her to go to college. I think the odds of her getting a great job right out of high school are far less likely than her getting a (higher paying) job out of college. Will I be upset if she doesn't go? Like I said, it depends on the situation.
