I have no doubt that 'on average' they do make more but id be interested to

see an analysis by degree vs without going to college vs kids that go to college but end up dropping out. I suspect the overall wealth would be something like this

1. college degree with high earning potential (STEM, doctor, lawyer, finance, etc)
2. straight to the workforce out of HS
3. college degree with low earning potential (psych, comms, education, language, etc)

i don't think the issue here is whether going to college is worth it or not if you end up in a certain field but if you spend $200k+ for a degree that only offers $30k per year salary then you're in a hole you can't ever get out of. We can debate whether the kids should have know that going in or not but the adults / councilors, etc not clearly communicating that RoI to these kids and the pressure to go to college was (is?) a disservice and has them drowning in debt.

I don't know if this exists or not but I'd love to see a mandate that each school (so you can see public vs private, in state vs out, etc) has to publish some standardized metric by degree that takes into account future earnings and debt accrued. Would be very interesting and useful to show HS kids

...might also drive tuition rate (and professor salary) to be based on degree....why should someone have to pay the same for an education that gets you half the earning potential. That would allow continued learning at a 'market' value
