I think the team kind of follows Keely’s lead, which Pete might have shaped
Keely is the undisputed face of the team. That’s not to belittle any other player, they’ve all made significant contributions. But they are (I think) going to kind of model themselves after her. You see her out there. She’s all business, all the time, whether she is winning big or (like Saturday) losing. The times we have seen Ivy or Mac out there, same exact mannerisms. All business. But it’s not just the pitchers, I see the whole team following Keely’s approach.
CC often tells the story about when a group of men’s basketball players goes to Kroger, they always walk behind Wabissa Bede. Always. There is no doubt who the face of the team is. They follow his lead. Same kind of idea here, I think.
Now, has that all business approach Keely undertakes been shaped/influenced by Pete? Possibly/probably, but we don’t know. It’s a mindset. I like it, but it’s probably not for everyone.
But I wouldn’t necessarily equate the relative lack of emotion during games as an indication that they aren’t having fun. WINNING IS FUN. You saw the post game pics in Tempe, they were plenty happy and showed it….once the game was in the books. And I’m sure they are happy, fun people off the field too. We’re not going to see that side of it. So to me, it’s more a separation of church and state, in terms of emotion and the approach. And they do show emotion and support for one another during the game, it’s just not over the top gimmicky cheerleader type stuff. There is a difference.
As others have said, Chip would know best. These are all just my opinions/observations, of course.
