True about rural talent....
in softball. I've seen girls from rural Southside Virginia go to D-1 schools every year. Some schools only have 200-350 students. Softball and baseball are big in rural areas. It's pretty much the only entertainment during the summer week day evenings and weekends. It's been like that forever. I've seen local girls play at all the D-1 state universities, UNC, NC State, JMU, Liberty, Longwood and even had one go to Arizona. That's one of the reasons Longwood was competitive for some time. They pretty much recruited every rural high school (A and AA) within a 100 mile radius of campus. JMU did that more in their earlier days of success. Now most of the top talent in rural areas play travel ball, mainly so their daughters can get a college scholarship. Travel ball makes it easier to recruit players, but I think it hurt the smaller D-1 schools like Longwood who used to "steal" good under looked players in the past.
