I had a hard time getting the title corrected on a "grey market" car

It was brought into the country by a army guy, and he originally titled/registered the car in North Carolina. It turns out that whoever entered the data into the computer, they dropped one character off of the vin. I bought the car in Florida, and kept trying to get the title, but kept getting denied. I was finally able to contact someone in the Florida DMV who told me what was wrong. I ended up having to get the VIN verified by the FHP. Thankfully that cleared up the mess!

I still have no idea how in the world the NC DMV titled and registered the car with an invalid VIN. It would be one thing if they entered an incorrect character, but they were one character short. How in the world could that happen?????
