I think we may be looking past a middle ground in all of this

From a playoff perspective, all ACC teams should want to stay right where we are. It is far easier to make the playoffs (as they are currently with 4 teams). And even an expanded playoff would be easier to reach in the ACC.

So that just leaves money. And if all we need is more money to keep the ACC intact, then that is probably the easiest and most simple answer. The next move might not about breaking the GOR. It could just be a renegotiation of the GOR to make it fair value against the other conferences. And here is what the ACC has in their favor.

1. Geography. ACC footprint has some very large populations.
2. Basketball. The GOR is conference media rights for all sports. The ACC basketball teams are a valuable commodity.
3. National brands. UNC, FSU, Miami, Duke, Clemson are all national draws in either football, basketball or both.
4. Conference size. We are the same size currently as the SEC and Big Ten so it is an easy direct comparison for contracts.

Rather than break the GOR and have teams leave. I'd be interested to see what the language says for renegotiating the terms of the GOR.
