I agree that VT should call the SEC. However, all of the complications


I posted above still exist with or without the call. In fact, I even said VT should make the call (direct quote: "Ask the SEC via back-channels if a VT application would be accepted."). But making the call vs. actually getting invited and actually leaving the ACC with impunity are two entirely different things.

It would be quite a war on multiple fronts for VT alone to be able to just walk away from the ACC: 1) contractional obligations and the courts 2) UVa and Virginia politics 3) ESPN's position 4) and SEC that just made a massive move and might want to wait for the dust to settle on this transition first. And more.

Look, if we could click our heels and be in the SEC, I'd do it instantaneously. But the barriers to exit are quite large. And we will need a comprehensive strategy to do it.
