There is an equitable way to do this

The easiest would be 4 ACC schools dropping football or placing it somewhere else. I nominate Wake, BC, Syracuse, and Duke. If BC/Syracuse dropped they could live nice lives in Big East.

The option where no one gives up football is a full merger with Pac12 for football. Create two tiers. Top tier gets 65% or so of football payout. You play within your tier for conference record purposes and Tier 1 winner is considered conference champ. Your best football teams need more money and better conference schedules. Throw in crazy exciting relegation/promotion elements and you will be a hot topic in college football.
