I had a nightmare with a car rental company ~ 5 years ago.


I canceled a reservation, but I suspect someone used the "walk straight to the car and drive" option they provide to frequent travelers at airports to grab the car I'd reserved and drive all over the place. I assume the guard didn't check the ID closely or something. I was harassed for about 3 years with calls and letters demanding payment for a car I didn't rent, they were aggressive. I haven't rented a car in the US since then, I just uber even if the cost is 2X rental car prices.
