WRT to your point "if they are not obligated to play the sport as a


condition for attending the school," it may be easy for a lawyer to connect the dots particularly if coaches are allowed to continue to recruit and if HS recruiting is still a multi-million dollar business for companies in that line of work.

For example, if the consensus #1 HS recruit in men's basketball applies to UNC, then it is very likely that he will be accepted at UNC regardless whether he meets UNC's academic requirements or not. Perceptually speaking, most people will conclude that the only reason he was accepted to UNC is because he is good in basketball especially if he is on UNC's roster his 1st year at UNC.
