Salary advice from the lounge. Serious and not serious answers welcome...


SO. I am a relatively young / new manager. I currently have 3 direct reports, one opening, and about 10 indirect reports.

2 of my direct reports make as much or more than I do and the person I'm about to hire also will make more than me. I've had a fairly rapid ascent in the last few years with 3 promotions and a couple spot raises in addition to high performance reviews. Granted, all three of these individuals are older than me, 2 by 20+ years.

Is that normal? Do I have grounds to ask for a raise... I'm pretty happy where I am and the red carpet has been rolled out the last several years, just seems odd.

I feel kinda like Michael Scott when he shows Darrell his pay stub...
