Big difference is ESPN

ESPN has a integrated partnership with the SBC. AAC - not as much (sorta like the Big 12) HOWEVER, with the AAC pulling lots of the nice properties from CUSA, they are ok. The conference STILL at the lowest rung is CUSA. They do not have a significant TV contract.

FYI, SBC commissioner has alot of mid-atlantic/espn ties as I believe AD for Richmond and assoc AD at Duke. So many folks know him. WIth his richmond and Duke/ACC ties, he was able to craft a regional solution for SBC. The Marshall JMU, ODU App State Coastal Carolina and Ga State GA southern is perfect scale for those schools. Same for their western side. All very similar schools.
