Where to be when the ball is in X position. Where to be when youre guarding a shooter, non-shooter, driver, post player, etc. Executing a side switch. Adhering to a game plan. The multiple ways to defend a ball screen (I can think of 7, but Im sure there are more). The responsibilities off the ball when you defend a ball screen a certain way. Team rebounding vs individual rebounding.
If it were easy then you wouldnt have coaches who need clinics to go over the myriad of changes there are on how defense is adapted each year.
In a vacuum each one of those is simple. When youre asked to do more of those then it takes longer for some to retain. Some never get it.
