You are forgetting that a new contract or even a NCAA solution may not

work if the schools are still discussing and debating what the new NCAA should look like. Remember this issue doesn't just impact 1 sport (i.e. football) or even the sports that most college fans care about. It impacts ALL (and I do mean ALL) sports that are currently sponsored by the NCAA at ALL 3 DIVISION LEVELS (see the hyperlink). Yes, I know it is Wikipedia, but it is the only site I have found that displays all NCAA sponsored sports at all 3 division levels in 1 place. I can tell you the tables are correct because I took the time to cross reference it with the NCAA website(s) and all 3 division level manuals (aka the bylaws).

Basically what I am suggesting is this; the clock on the DI-FBS football runs out because the schools are still hashing out what to do about all the non-revenue sports, whether schools/conferences can be members of multiple division levels, and other logistical issues that are complicated and most fans don't care to discuss. If you look at some of my other posts in this thread, then you will see a couple different issues that I have raised which the schools will need to address and fans (or posters on here) aren't really talking about at any great length or depth. All fans seem to care to discuss is the impact it will have on football, maybe men's basketball, and maybe a couple more popular non-revenue sports. When someone mentions a less popular non-revenue sport (i.e. water polo or ice hockey) and what impact the new NCAA could have on them, then it is either silence or crickets because most fans don't really care what happens to those sports or assume all the less popular sports will magically go away even though that would likely be a direct violation of Title IX and other similar federal (and maybe even state) laws.
