Notre Dame is ranked third all-time behind Princeton and Yale

If you are talking only claimed national championships, then Notre Dame is tied for 4th with Michigan and USC (behind Princeton, Yale, and Alabama). If you are talking only national championships during Terry's lifetime and considering most years have more than 1 champion because of the lesser national championships, then probably only a handful of schools (maybe 25% tops) can claim they have won 4 or more national championships. Where the numbers kinda get skewed is part of Terry's lifetime includes a period when DI football didn't have subdivisions.
