The rankings are, of course, subjective. My aging memory recalls the outcry from observers of the BCS system, who thought that the computers would always be wrong because they could not apply the "eye test." Team X would be left out because of a bad loss in week one. There needed to be a way to disregard that loss if team X came surging to the last game like a world beater. (OSU did this in the very first CFP, 2014). Remember that the BCS included subjective rankings from poll sources that were always full of bias and lack of careful study. At least we know that the playoff committee watches the games before voting. The computers were considered to be impartial, but the criteria were created by and weighted by subjective human beings. I like the current brand of subjectivity better.
If the B1G has representative in this year's playoff, I'm fine with either OSU or PSU. There is a germ of mischief in me that wants to see the non-champion OSU get in. This would "normalize" the non-champion pathway. This would be a good year to do it because we don't really have a #1 through #4. We have clear #1 and a cluster of #7's.
