I'm all for anything that moves us closer to a Conf champ only playoff

Separate the G5 conferences and you are closer to a scenario where you move to a P4 conference setup where the conference championships represent the first round of the playoff.

Then we can stop having the whining and complaining about which teams that didn't win their conferences were cheated.

This is of course a football only view of the world, but conference are much less important (from a national perspective) in other sports.
