It gets hard to evaluate.How do you compare X CO2 vs fewer bags in a river?


Or X CO2 vs fewer acres used for landfill?
Or cheaper food packaging (i.e. cheaper for the individual buyer) vs more cost (i.e. cost paid by all via taxes) to process the garbage?

More to your point, there's a reason "reduce, reuse, recycle" is in that order. It's better to have less waste to recycle in the first place.
