A bit of a stretch to include Henry County.
By far it's the furthest east of the "southern VA counties," and furthest from the mountains (but you can see them from there...lol) Guess it's tied to Patrick county, which is a mountainous county. Back in the day, they were a single county named "Patrick Henry," which also included Franklin County, which isn't considered "Appalachia" per their map. Strange since Franklin Co. is significantly more "rural" than Henry County.
But Henry County got whacked bad by NAFTA. They lost the DuPont plant, as well as 100% the textile and 95% of furniture manufacturing. (I think Bassett Furniture has one assembly plant in the industrial section next to PHCC.)
But I digress...
