I am shocked to hear that someone could be deployed overseas

for that long period of time. I guess certain jobs require longer deployment. The way the article reads it sounds like he was never given leave or long enough leave to come home and visit his family. Then again, maybe I am misinterpreting what the author meant by this sentence, "Nearly 10 years away from his family, Anthony never stopped thinking about what he had to come home to."
