The other thing that crossed my mind is whether his marriage survived or not. Almost 10 years is a very long time to be away from your spouse. If he did get a divorce and he didn't have family or friends living near his ex-wife, then the divorce could present a "challenge" of trying to spend quality time with his daughter especially if he and his ex-wife are on good speaking terms.

In any case, it is a good heartfelt story that should be shared with the world especially with Memorial Day quickly approaching.
