We're the Eastern Conference. Private Schools are part of that.
Private schools are a major make up of the ACC and a major part of higher education in the east. The eastern elite universities of the Ivy League are all private.
Yes there are other private universities in other regions, but they don't dominate like they do in the east. There seem to be many in Texas though. Penn State is the big Public University in the east with quality athletics. And yes they can balance out the private ones somewhat. And Penn State is a major player in the East. That's where the ACC thrives.
The good news about the Private Universities is that they are usually good academically, and they have money. In the ACC we give them a chance to be good in football and basketball. The one downside is that they won't fill massive stadiums with Notre Dame the exception. But I kind of enjoyed seeing Duke right in the game with Alabama at halftime. Didn't last, but good for a half.
