You can't have it both ways. You stated the B1G really supports AAU for all members. Yet the only AAU membership activity for a B1G member institution in over 55 years is the removal of a member.
The B1G isn't "supporting" membership for all of it's members. For the reasons I stated earlier, it's simply a matter of all (but one now) of its member institutions have been AAU members for many decades (with 8 of the 11 for more than 100 years) and continue to meet the required criteria. The B1G is neither supporting nor protecting its member institutions with regard to AAU membership. Is there a member you think is being protected from being removed?
The biggest impediment to VT being invited to membership is likely the small research portfolio of its medical school and/or its lack of affiliation with a large research hospital/medical school. In the world of medical research, VT is the equivalent of a Div III medical school.
