Of course we all have our own personal biases. But the first step is to try to avoid the bias of others. Just as you mentioned, history is written by the winners and they are very good at telling stories that mix facts with particular slants or interpretations (or omitting facts that don't fit the story they want to tell). So yes it is impossible to eliminate bias completely, but we can certainly try by asking critical questions whenever we hear or see historical information.
