You're Using Revisionist History and Failing to Look at the Monument

in it's time when it was given as a gift. You're applying 2020 standards to an event that happened 100 years ago. At the time, Columbus was seen as a hero and a founder, and the Italian Americans in Richmond, who also had to face persecution, wanted to share part of their history with the city of Richmond. The Italian immigrants saved and combined their funds for a gift to the city that they had to fight for just to be placed within the city. I don't believe the point was to say screw the Native Americans or anyone else.

And, I'm not arguing for Columbus to have a statue or Italian Americans to have recognition. What I do care about is when a mob of people maliciously tear down something when they have know understanding of the context in which it was given. Where does it end?
