Windows are kinda overrated as an energy efficiency upgrade


Sure, a good window is going to leak less heat and air than a bad one. But most houses lose a lot more heat somewhere other than the windows (unless the existing windows are REALLY bad). A typical modern home's heat loss is only about 25% through the windows and doors...and most of that is leaks around the windows and doors, not directly through the glass.

If the goal is to save money on heating, check your attic insulation, seal any leaks between the living space and the attic, and caulk around all your windows and doors before you go replacing windows. That will do more good for a lot less money.

If you are replacing windows because they are worn out and ugly, then knock yourself out. But if your goal is measurable savings on your heating bill, there are much bigger bangs for the buck out there.
