Playoff Expansion will determine Conf Expansion if th SEC/ND Alliance rules
the day, it will go one way. If the ACC/B1G/PAC Alliance and now possibly the B12 is a part of that, it will go another way.
If the SEC/ND Alliance works for the playoff with 12, you will eventually see more teams go to the SEC. They will not be able to afford being lapped in income and the 6 at large bids means they can have 5-6 teams in dwarfing the other conferences in money received for it and exposure. Yes the sport will become very regional again like NASCAR and lose a lot of the national audience, but they don't care, they just want to dominate the sport along with the great ratings from ND.
However, if the ACC/B1G/PAC Alliance sets the stage with 8 team playoff and automatic bids to either the 6 highest ranked Conference Champions or 5 automatic bids to the P5 Champions (I can't see the G-5 voting for P5 automatic bids unanimously), it could really slow down the SEC takeover. All of a sudden being in the SEC might make it really tough for everyone, but Alabama and Georgia to make the playoff.
All of a sudden being in the B12 versus the SEC may make it easier to make the playoff. This will not only give for instance the B12 more exposure, but the money and recruiting will follow too.
So as big as the changes we have already had this year, if they go away from a 4 team playoff, the College Football Expansion could be bigger than anything yet.
It's time to grab your popcorn and watch.
