Here's the Power 5 "IF" the Big 12 implodes...
The Pac 12 gets Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State The Pac 12 gets divided into 4 regional pods of 4 teams. Those pods work out very well for the new Pac 16.
The Big 10 takes Kansas and adds UConn (to get a foot in New England) to get to 16. The B1G is now a top notch men's basketball conference like the ACC. The B1G also divides into four 4 team divisions.
The ACC and SEC do nothing. The ACC doesn't expand because Notre Dame won't join as the 15th full member, therefore there is no reason to expand to 16. The SEC simply finds all the Big 12 leftovers to be unattractive and stay strong at 14.
The remaining Big 12 members merge with the AAC. Political pressure causes this merge. That conveniently gets them to 16. They too divide into 4 regional divisions of four teams. Colorado leaves the MWC and joins the western division. The conference will either be named the Big 16 or remain the AAC. The lawyers will figure that out.
Navy leaves the AAC since Air Force and Army are included As "P-5 football independents" along with BYU and Notre Dame. The Power 5 ends up with 81 members. Boise State and San Diego State may eventually get P-5 football independent membership down the road.
There you have it. Expansion is over. ;)
