Since Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, and Louisville all came in at close to the same time as Maryland leaving, the ACC got a huge boost without much loss. It's almost as though we hardly noticed they left.

Maryland was UVA's designated rival, and the UVA fans now rave about going to Louisville for football. Their stadium is apparently very nice. And the Yum Center is too. The upgrade in baseball is tremendous.

The big downside is Lacrosse, especially women's. But with Notre Dame and Syracuse coming in as Maryland left, the impact there wasn't all that great. I would like to see us get a 6th men's lacrosse member either by someone adding it or having an associate like the Big Ten does with Hopkins. I've been very impressed with Richmond so far. They have only played for 4 years, and they're beating Duke and UNC on the road. That's amazing to me.

Maryland leaving is water under the bridge. I don't think Swofford was given an opportunity to drop the ball. The way they left was not their finest hour at all. When they mired themselves in a mass of horrendously mismanaged debt, hired a B1G president, and grew to hate the ACC, and was willing to make a super-secret and unpopular move, and then hired a bunch of fake message board posters to go to their boards and try to talk up how great it is.
Then they tried to not fulfill the exit fee process in the ACC bylaws that Dr. Wallace Loh added to the bylaws in the first place. The ACC is better off without a member like that.
