A good conference commissioner keeps close to all his member institution presidents and AD's. Swofford obviously didn't have a good relationship with Maryland and at that time his relationship with Florida State wasn't that healthy. After Maryland departed, Swofford wisely mended fences with FSU.

I agree that there's nothing any of us can do to change things and what we have is what we have. I also realize that you have never been a big fan of Maryland and it obviously shows in any post concerning Maryland. The only problem I have with the Maryland bashing is the way some of the posters on here minimize the loss of Maryland and try to build up Louisville to make themselves feel better. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, losing a quality state flagship school like the University of Maryland to the Big Ten wasn't a good thing. I lived amongst Terps fans for 27 years and there were good ones and bad ones like any fan base. I enjoyed beating Maryland in any sport and their men's basketball fans could be very obnoxious at times, but having them in the ACC was a good thing regionally, especially for a school like Virginia Tech that has 1,200 undergrads from Maryland on campus every year. Louisville should've been the school going to the Big 10 (because of their Midwest location), but that conference has higher membership standards and took Maryland over U of L (who was available for the taking). Like the U of L fans say, "Thank God Maryland left the ACC or we'd still be in the AAC."
