infected through your eyes, but if everyone is wearing a mask, there are far fewer virus droplets floating around to get in your eyes. Even though masks don't stop all the droplets, they most likely decrease the viral load. Less viral load = less severe illness in most cases. I'm not a doctor, but for people that aren't visibly ill (no coughing, sneezing, etc.), I'd guess that a rudimentary mask is good enough to probably stop a lot of what comes out of you by simply breathing. If someone is visible ill, they should stay at home anyway.
