Covid fatality rate

The Wall Street Journal has an article today on Covid death rates. They analyzed 26 studies on the virus and found the average death rate of those infected to be 0.68%. Higher than seasonal flu but lower than Ebola fatality rates. Interesting as early fatality studies from China were 0.66% of cases and the Diamond Princess Cruise ship were 0.6%. Both early studies are in line with the aggregate study average. The article is on a pay site so I am not linking.

CDC also published a paper yesterday stating that they estimate total Covid cases were 6-24 times more than confirmed cases depending on the state in the US. That’s a really big range and even at a mid point would imply large number of folks have had it. Also read a study summary yesterday that said many folks with confirmed cases are showing little or no antibodies after as little as 70 days. Will be very difficult to pinpoint actual infection rates if that is the case.

If your scared stay home.
